We’re living longer and healthier lives than ever before in human history.  Because so many seniors wish to remain independent in the home and community that holds a lifetime of memories, a variety of home care support services have been developed to make this feasible.

What is “With A Little Help”?Taking BP

Non-medical services that assist individuals with the activities of daily living.  This care is an increasingly popular choice for care because it enables seniors to remain in their own environments, and may also be a lifesaver for caregivers.

pill bottlesFor example, simple tasks such as housekeeping and meal preparation may become increasingly difficult for many older adults.  Personal tasks, such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, keeping track of medications, even transferring from the bed to a chair, may become unmanageable alone.

Types of support services available for seniors living at home:exercising

Personal Care – assistance with a variety of daily living activities, such as bathing, shaving, mouth care, hair care, dressing, ostomy care, toileting, range of motion exercises, medication reminders and non-podiatric nail care.

Nail care

Housekeeping – bed linen changes, clutter control and light cleaning may also be provided.  For assistance with routine housekeeping, contact Benzie County Council on Aging at (231) 325-4851 or 1-888-893-1102.

Wheelchair outside

Companionship – one-to-one attention, conversation and a listening ear, walks, laughter and mental stimulation.

Meals – meal planning, light meal preparation, eating meals together, encouraging liquids.

RN Consultation – in-home visits for assessment and evaluation of care plan, medication set-up, and periodic blood draws.  We also make referrals to other agencies, such as Meals on Wheels, Council on Aging, Hospice, or Area Agency on Aging.

Services we do NOT provide:

  • We cannot do any heavy lifting.
  • We cannot provide podiatric foot care.
  • We cannot provide transportation.
  • Our aides cannot administer medications or fill pill boxes – they can only provide cues.
