The strength of our organization is in our volunteers.  Different volunteer roles offer different levels of commitments, challenges and rewards.  Some support clients and their families, while others work in the office, speak in the community, or help with fundraising.  Whatever you wish to give, we need your support, skills and talents.  Your contribution of a few hours or more is appreciated.

There are a number of ways you can volunteer:

  • Become a TeleCare volunteer.
  • Help in the office with administrative tasks and answering the telephone.
  • Promote our services in the community by making presentations and setting up information displays.
  • Help organize or volunteer at a special fundraising event or raise money by organizing your own.

What does a TeleCare volunteer do?

Each trained volunteer makes a regular phone call to 1-5 seniors at prearranged times one morning per week.  These calls offer friendship and often give the first indication of a developing problem.  This is one of a number of services that allows our aging population to live alone at home, knowing that a safety net is literally a phone call away.

The volunteers are coordinated by a program manager and receive training in listening skills, communication and community resources.  The calls are made from the volunteer’s home to the home of the participant at a predetermined time on the assigned day.  If a volunteer is planning to be out of town, a substitute is found so there is no interruption in the service.  Most of the service provided by this program is over the phone, but there can be some direct contact between the program and the participant.  Sometimes close friendships develop through the daily calls.
